At Western Filament, we specialize in processing synthetic fibers. Here are some examples of what we stock:
Polyester
A synthetic fiber known for its durability, wrinkle resistance, and moisture-wicking properties. Commonly used in clothing, industrial fabrics, and home textiles due to its strength and affordability.
Nylon
A strong, elastic, and lightweight synthetic polymer with excellent abrasion resistance. Widely used in textiles, ropes, and industrial applications where flexibility and toughness are needed.
Meta-Aramids (Nomex®)
A heat- and flame-resistant synthetic fiber used primarily in protective clothing for firefighters and industrial workers. It offers high thermal stability and is also used in electrical insulation.
Para-Aramids (Kevlar®)
An extremely strong and lightweight synthetic fiber with high tensile strength. Commonly used in body armor, aerospace applications, ropes, and high-performance composites due to its excellent cut and abrasion resistance.
Ceramic (Nextel®)

Teflon® (PTFE)
A non-stick, chemically resistant fluoropolymer known for its low friction and high-temperature tolerance. Commonly found in cookware coatings, seals, gaskets, and wire insulation.
PEEK® (Polyether ether ketone)
A high-performance thermoplastic with excellent mechanical strength, chemical resistance, and thermal stability. Used in aerospace, automotive, and medical implants due to its high-performance properties.
Ryton® (PPS – Polyphenylene sulfide)
A high-temperature thermoplastic with excellent chemical resistance and dimensional stability. Used in electrical components, automotive parts, and industrial filters.
Halar® (ECTFE – Ethylene Chlorotrifluoroethylene)
A fluoropolymer with outstanding chemical resistance and good flame retardancy. Ideal for corrosion-resistant coatings, linings, and cable insulation.
Vectran®
A high-performance multifilament yarn spun from liquid crystal polymer. Known for its high strength, cut resistance, and minimal creep, it is used in ropes, cables, and aerospace components.
Spectra®
An ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene fiber that is incredibly light yet stronger than steel by weight. It’s used in ballistic protection, marine applications, and high-performance sporting goods.
PVDF (Polyvinylidene fluoride)
A tough, flexible fluoropolymer with excellent chemical, UV, and fire resistance. Commonly used in chemical processing equipment, piping, and wire insulation.
